How to read a Shopify revenue estimate
ShopTrend team · Published:
A revenue estimate for someone else's store is never a measurement: nobody outside the store sees its orders. The honest way to show an estimate is as a range with a confidence level and a date, not as one number that pretends to be exact. Learn to read those parts once and you can read any estimate, ours included.
1. The range: where the real value most likely sits
The low and the high values are the frame. A revenue range on a store page is telling you that the real figure most likely sits inside that band. A narrow range means the estimate is settled; a wide one means it is not, yet.
2. The confidence level: how sure is it?
Next to every range there is one word: high, medium or low. It tells you how much weight the range can carry. Low confidence is not an alarm. It is an honest label that says "use this with care".
3. The date: when did anyone last look?
An estimate without a date is a rumour. Every number carries the day it was last measured. Data older than about a day is marked "Data is old": the number may still be right, but you should know you are looking at the past.
4. "Not measured": the most honest cell in the table
Sometimes there is no estimate: the store is days old, it has not been checked yet, or there is too little to go on. Then you see "not measured" with the reason, never a zero or a dash standing in for "we don't know".
Sample data. The stores and figures in this table are made up, only to show how to read them.
| Store | Revenue / month | Confidence | Measured |
|---|---|---|---|
| aurora-candles.example | $50K–$100K/mo | medium | 18 October |
| kuzey-seramik.example | $12K–$19K/mo | high | 18 October |
| tek-lamba.example | Not measured: the store is too new | none | 19 October |
5. Three checks before you act on any estimate
- Read the range, not one end of itWould your decision change at the low end? Then the estimate is not enough on its own.
- Check the dateAnything older than your decision window needs a fresh look.
- Look at what changedNew products, new ads, a price move: changes tell you whether a number has a story behind it.
Takeaway
A good estimate tells you how sure it is. Range, confidence, date, and the honesty to say "not measured". If a tool shows you one exact number for a store it cannot see, ask it the same questions.

Questions
Can anyone know a Shopify store's exact revenue from outside?
No. Only the store owner sees the orders. Anything seen from outside is an estimate and should come with a range, a confidence level and a date.
What does a wide range mean?
That the estimate is not settled yet. Use it with more care, and look at the confidence level and the date.
Why "not measured" instead of zero?
Because a zero is a claim that the store sold nothing. When we do not know, we say so and give the reason.
